Do you work over 50 hours a week. Has everyone given up on you ever being on time? Do you underestimate how long something will take to get done. Are you impatient with others, or in constant worry over loving your job or being a failure? Then you might be a workaholic. God never intended for our work to become a god to us. But for 40% of those in North America, it's likely just that. Dr. Merritt unpacks this practical lesson on living for something beyond our work. As we understand God's plan and place for work in our lives, we can grow to work more healthily, walk with God more intimately and worship God more fully.
"We live in a generation that doesn’t understand the whole concept of the Sabbath. People and nations observed the Sabbath for thousands of years, but only recently with the industrial revolution has the western world largely abandoned it. The truth is even with people who go to church; the biblical idea of the Sabbath has become something strange and foreign. I want you to understand that this concept goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. God set aside an entire day where Adam could just rest and catch his breath. Even then Adam needed a day to turn off pager, his cell phone, and not check his email. Think about this, God could have created the world in six nano-seconds, but he took six days and then rested on the seventh. He did it to illustrate the fact that we need to stop so we can be refreshed. The Sabbath is given for us to use every week. The Sabbath is not meant to be used once a month or once a quarter or once a year, but once a week." --Dr. Merritt
