Have you ever noticed that children and animals have two things in common? They are drawn to people who are gentle. Meekness and gentleness are easy to spot in someone but hard to instruct someone to grow into.If you are very intense, or if you are extremely driven, or if you are hyperactive, or if you are super competitive, you especially need to hear what God says about this fruit of the Spirit. You don’t have to be a wimp to be meek. It doesn’t mean you will never get your feather’s ruffled. You can come across without coming across cross. When you are with Jesus, you are at ease even though you are in the presence of God himself, because with Jesus there was always this spirit of meekness and gentleness. In this message, Dr. Merritt reminds us how to cultivate the fruit of gentleness in our lives, for our own good and for the good of those around us.
When you are controlled by the Spirit of gentleness and meekness. Your number one concern is not for the rights you want someone else to give you. Your number one concern is for the responsibilities you have towards someone else. If you want to see what happens when you don’t have a Spirit of meekness and gentleness in a society just simply look at what happens in the courts. Everybody is suing everybody for everything. You have to be insured for almost everything and anything to protect yourself from being sued in case something goes wrong." --Dr. Merritt
