Scriptures: John 3:1-16
The phrase "born again" is central to understanding the Christian faith. But what does it really mean to be born again? This question was asked for the first time in history in what is one of the most important one-on-one conversations Jesus had that is recorded in the gospels. Even among church going people there is at times a stunning ignorance of what this term means and why it is so important to understand it. If you are a Christian, you are born again. If you are born again, you are a Christian. It is the one thing that must happen to you if you are going to see God's Kingdom, enter His Kingdom and spend eternity with Him there. Simply put: A relationship with God begins with a new birth. In this message, Dr. Merritt explores the important topic of being born again from the perspective of Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus in John Chapter 3.
"What Jesus was saying to Nicodemus was something that he never dreamed was possible, but he always needed to hear. You don’t need a new start. You need a new life. It is a new life that God can give you if you will receive it. The new birth is something that only God can do for you and something that only God can give you. Physical birth is something that happened to us without any effort on our part whatsoever. The same thing is true of spiritual birth. It is God that gives us this spiritual life. All He wants us to do is receive it." --Dr. Merritt
