Scriptures: Genesis 25:19-34, 31, Romans 7:4, 9:10-13, 2 Peter 1:8, Galatians 5:16-17, Hebrews 12:16, 2 Corinthians 4:18
In the Old Testament, Isaac and Rebekah cried out to God for a child. Just as the marriage of man and wife picture the relationship between Christ and His church, we can learn deep and powerful principles about the relationship we have to Christ today and His church, and what Jesus expects from that relationship. As Dr. Merritt examines these scriptures, we will see a surface truth as well as a deeper truth. We are going to see how the children produced by this marriage, and the differences and division between them, pictures the struggle between the flesh and the spirit in every child of God.
"The moment a person gives their life to Christ the battle begins. When a person is saved, his sin is forgiven, he becomes a new person, he is made spiritually alive, but his regenerated spirit must battle his rebellious flesh. Esau represents the flesh and Jacob represents the Spirit. This is obvious when both are examined." --Dr. Merritt
