Scriptures: Jonah 1, Matthew 12:40-41
The story of Jonah is both well-known and a little unbelievable. A man swallowed by a fish? Seriously? In this message, Dr. Merritt unveils the story of a prophet who ran from God's mission--and found himself in a very odd predicament. But this book of the Bible not primarily about Jonah or about a fish. Rather, this is a book about God, and His will for us. The reason Jonah is in the Bible is to teach us what running for God and His will looks like.
"There are basically only two reasons why we run from God. We are either afraid or we are arrogant. We are either afraid of God’s Will or we are so arrogant that we think we know better what we ought to be doing than God does. Let me go ahead and give you the punch-line of this story. You can run from God, but you can’t get away from God." --Dr. Merritt
