Scriptures: Psalm 139:1-18, 104:3, 1 John 3:20, Proverbs 15:3, Romans 8:38-39, Jeremiah 23:23-24, Titus 1:2, James 1:13
If we want to know the Real God, then at some point we begin to try to describe Him in terms we can understand. We reach for words and compare Him to the biggest things we know in His creation, including all of creation. A mountain, a planet, the sun, the heavens, the universe--but none do Him justice. In His Word, the Bible, we find characteristics of God that let us know just how mighty He is. And He truly is a Big God.
Why is that important? Because the Real God cannot be small. He cannot be overwhelmed by our circumstances and problems. If He is real, He must be big enough to see them, big enough to solve them, big enough to rule over them and over us. In this message, Dr. Merritt's explores the mightiness of our Real God.
"The word omnipotent comes again from the Latin word omni meaning 'all,' and the word potens, which means 'powerful.' So it literally means 'all powerful.' God is all powerful and omnipotent. Now understand to say that God is omnipotent does not mean that God can do anything. If God could do anything then God could lie. If God could do anything then God could die. Omnipotence means that God can do anything that does not contradict His word, His will, or His ways. Titus 1:2 says that God cannot lie. James 1:13 says that God cannot do wrong or tempt others to do wrong. But consistent with his character, God can do anything." --Dr. Merritt
