Scriptures: James 5:1-6, 1 Timothy 6:17, Ecclesiastes 5:13
Dr. Merritt presents this practical and straightforward message on money and stewardship from the book of James. How does real faith respond to money? How does real faith handle money? James teaches that real faith sees money and handles money from an eternal perspective. The problem is not that money was being made. The problem James addresses was that the money was being hoarded; it was being stockpiled. It was being put away like meat in a freezer. When James talks here about gold and silver being corroded what he is referring to is an attitude of covetousness and greed. He is talking about an attitude which can rot you on the inside and ruin you on the outside. God does not have a problem with us making money. God has a problem with money mastering people.
"Honestly, I have really been convicted by this passage and this message. Let me be specific. We have clothes, shoes, and jewelry that we never wear. We more house than we need and more money than we really could legitimately spend. Why? Why have we been so blessed? Why do we have so much when the rest of this world has so little?" -- Dr. Merritt
