Scriptures: Psalm 127:1-5, 128:1-6, Exodus 20:7, Genesis 2:22
It is not coincidental that Psalm 127 and 128 are together, for they actually form a two-part exposition on the family; and they cover the stages through which a family passes. It is like watching the different time sequences of a family from beginning to end. In these first two verses (Psalm 127:1-2) we are studying the beginning of the home. Now in order to begin a home you’ve got to have at least three things: First of all, you have to have a blueprint. The blueprint for a godly family is the Word of God. Then you must have a builder. The builder of a godly family is the Son of God. Then you must have a base; that is, a foundation. The base of a godly family is the Spirit of God.
In this message, Dr. Merritt explains why it is so important that the home is built by Christ and on Christ.
"The word build is a beautiful Hebrew word. It is the same word that is used in Genesis 2:22 when it says, 'Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman.' The word made is literally the word for 'build.' You need someone to build a home, and the Lord is the Master builder of all homes. It was the Lord who built the first home in the garden of Eden when he joined Adam and Eve together and made them one. It is the Lord who is building our future home, for He said, 'I go and prepare a place for you.' It is the Lord who builds our faith home, the church, because He said, 'Upon this rock I will build my church.' Not only do we need the Lord to begin our homes, we need the Lord to build our homes." --Dr. Merritt
