Scriptures: John 8:12, Genesis 1:3, 1 John 1:5
"Jesus compared Himself to light when He said, "I am the light of the world..." In this message, Dr. Merritt unpacks the significance of this statement. Light is tremendously important for daily life--everything we see is the result of light. We are created to live in light, we are drawn to light. Children might be afraid of the dark, but they are comfortable and enjoy the light. In the Old Testament God Himself brought the Children of Israel through the wilderness in the form of a pillar of fire--light. In Jesus' time, this reference to light would have been unmistakable in a practical sense and a spiritual sense.
"To a world living in spiritual darkness, Jesus Christ said He had come as a light to bring significance and security to anyone willing to live the darkness of confusion and meaninglessness and enter into the light of God's love and God's life." --Dr. Merritt
